A little beat up but looks to be driven regularly. Somebody must REALLY like Valiants.

We need a “when cars actually had character” tag for posts like this . What a distinctive vehicle.

A woman in my childhood neighborhood drove a white 1961 Valiant. My family moved there in 1973, and twenty years later she was still driving that Valiant.

Ok I’m a pedant but that’s not a Plymouth.
Pretty beat up, but it’s 60 years old. Nice!

And for those of us who don’t know our classic cars, what is it?

Valiant, like the Comet, was briefly a separate brand. I’m almost sure this is a 1960 based on the grille, which would make it just a Valiant.
For about a minute, Chrysler had 6 brands - Imperial, Chrysler, DeSoto , Dodge, Plymouth and Valiant.

Oh, and they were also selling Simca in the US around that time, too.

Maybe too much character - I mean, it finished the year in 4th place behind the Falcon, American, and Corvair.

I said “distinctive.” I didn’t say “attractive.”

My mom had a 1960 Valient when my two sisters and I were all in the single digits. No seat belts. W e climbed all over the car as she drove. T he preferred spot was up above the back seat by the rear window She later told me that she had to get the rear seat replaced because us kids wore it out. We used it as a trampoline as she drove and broke through right to the springs.
Can you imagine a 30 year old mother of three driving around to day like that? Someone would trap her at a stop light and hold her until the police arrived. I also didn’t own a bike helmet until I was close to 40. Not sure how we made it. And my parents were by no means on the wreckless side of things.
